Monday - Students will continue learning the standard SS8H8 with guided notes on the Great Depression & New Deal and their impact on Georgia.
Tuesday - Document and picture analysis of the Great Depression and how it affected Georgia Wednesday - Guided notes of the New Deal Thursday - Students will have a Venn diagram and a rewrite on the New Deal programs that affected Georgia. Friday - Reality U/Career day speakers Monday - Students will complete a Venn Diagram on Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Dubois and an analysis sheet with questions on the Plessy V. Ferguson case. Due at the end of class Tuesday - Review game on the New South (SS8H7) unit Wednesday - Quiz on the New South (SS8H7) Thursday - Students will receive guided notes on World War I (SS8H7d) Friday - Students will complete a political cartoon analysis and document analysis on Woodrow Wilson and WWI. Monday - Students will participate in a review game that covers all parts of the Georgia State government unit. The game cards are available below and can be used as a study aid for the unit test. Tuesday - GA state government unit test Wednesday - Students will begin the New South (SS8H7) unit with guided notes. This unit will cover the ICE, Bourbon Triumvirate, Booker T. Washington, WEB DuBios,1906 Atlanta Race Riot, Leo Frank case, Rebecca Latimer Felton, and Tom Watson among other smaller events. The last part of the SS8H7 standard covering World War I will be covered in the next unit. Thursday - 6 C's document analysis of the Leo Frank case and the 1906 Atlanta Race Riot Friday - Finish New South notes Monday - Students will continue the state government unit with guided notes on the legislative branch of Georgia. Students will then read and discuss a chart that covers how a bill becomes a law in Georgia. Each student is responsible for completing a sheet that fills in some parts of the process. Tuesday - In groups, students will participate in a mock simulation of a proposed bill becoming a law including committee, voting, and submitting to the "governor" to sign into law. Wednesday - Executive branch guided notes; Complete the legislative and executive portions of the state government study guide Thursday - Continue guided notes on Georgia state government including the judicial branch (SS8CG4) and juvenile justice (SS8CG6) Friday - Students will complete **Please remember that the Site Visit Report is due the Monday after our February break, 2/27/17. Monday - NO SCHOOL/MLK HOLIDAY Tuesday - Students will finish the evidence sheets on the Reconstruction documents, complete a RACER on the essential question "Who Killed Reconstruction?", and complete a timeline to review for the Reconstruction quiz. Wednesday - Quiz on Reconstruction (SS8H6b); Preview the state government unit with a government vocabulary word search titled "The Great State". The reading sheet and vocabulary sheet are attached. Thursday - Students will begin guided notes on the Georgia state government unit (SS8CG) including voting rights and the executive, legislative, and judial branches of government. Friday - Students will participate in a "Rights vs. Responsibilities" matching game. Each group will then complete an assignment that compares/contrasts the 1983 Georgia Constitution and the U.S. Constitution. ** The unit quiz on Reconstruction (SS8H6) has been postponed until next week due to the school days missed from the inclement weather. **

The start of the 2nd semester begins this week. Report cards will be issued Friday, 1/6/17. **Students will be introduced to the Georgia Studies Site Visit project that will have students visit one verified historic site anywhere in the state of Georgia. (Note: Students must have approval from the teacher for the site that is chosen.) This project will be due Feburary 27th to allow ample time for students to visit on a weekend or school break if needed. Attached is a link to the Georgia Historical Society's list of historical places to facilitate some ideas for a site to visit.** Tuesday - Quiz on SS8H6b Wednesday - Documentary on the holiday traditions that evolved during the American Civil War; Students will receive the Site Visit report sheet Thursday - HOLIDAY BREAK Friday - HOLIDAY BREAK Monday - Students will begin the process of document analysis to answer the question "Why did the Union win the Civil War?". This assignment will include Thinking Notes for each document, answering questions in complete sentences, and citing evidence (quotes) to answer questions when necessary. Students will complete questions for documents I-J on Monday.
