L.Q. - What were the reasons for the settlement of the Georgia colony?
Monday - Students will begin a poster to recruit settlers to the Georgia colony. Project instructions and the Oglethorpe documents used for the project are attached below. Due Wednesday, 8/30/17 Tuesday - Finish Georgia colony poster project Wednesday - Turn in Georgia colony poster project; Georgia colony review activity Thursday - Students will complete a short document analysis on the the different groups that settled in the Georgia colony during the Trustee period; Also, students will participate in a Quizlet Live review game for Friday's quiz Friday - Quiz on European Exploration/Georgia Colony Trustee Period (SS8H1d; SS8H2a,b,c) L.Q. - How did European exploration and settlement affect Native American cultures? Monday - As part of the special solar eclipse event, students will create a 4 panel comic strip on Christopher Columbus' experience with the Caribbean natives and predicting an eclipse. Students will be introduced to Columbus through a short Biography video and reading. [Cancelled] Tuesday - Students will continue the first history unit of Georgia Studies (SS8H1) with guided notes on European Exploration of the Americas. Wednesday - Complete a painting analysis of Hernando DeSoto; Students will also complete a +1 paragraph "Show What You Know" newspaper article of DeSoto's arrival in North America or Spanish missions in the Georgia barrier islands Thursday - Guided notes on the establishment of the English colonies in North America Friday - Document analysis of the Charter of 1732 (modified) and the city of Savanah L.Q. - How did the native peoples of North America evolve over time?
Monday - Students will continue the GA geography unit with a RACER on a GA climate reading; video questions on a GA climate video Tuesday - Intro video on early native peoples in North America; Complete a chart on a reading about Paleo/Archaic/Woodland/Mississippian Native American time periods Wednesday - GPB virtual field trip on early Native American cultures w/ questions Thursday - GA Geography (SS8G1)/early Native American (SS8H1) review game Friday - Unit Test (SS8G1/SS8H1) L.Q. - How does where you live affect how you live? Monday - Students will preview the Georgia geography unit with a group discussion and share out of "Where in the World is Georgia?". Each student will then complete guided notes on standard SS8G1a (hemispheres, regions, and physical features). Tuesday - Finish Georgia geography notes on the 5 regions and physical features; GA map activity Wednesday - Finish map activity; Students will begin a 5 regions of Georgia flip book that details location, physical features, natural resources, climate, and land use of each of Georgia's physio-graphic regions.
